Douglas S. Shapiro

Douglas S. Shapiro is a managing director and a senior research analyst in the Equity Research Department at Banc of America Securities LLC, where he covers the categories of Cable and Satellite Television and Entertainment.

Previously, Shapiro was a senior research analyst in the Equity Research Department at Deutsche Banc Alex Brown, where he followed Cable and Satellite companies. Before that, he worked at Prudential Securities and Mabon Securities. He began his career as an economist in the U.S. Department of Labor and also spent time as a consultant at KPMG International.

In 1997 and 1998, Institutional Investor named him a "Next Generation" analyst for his coverage of Cable stocks. In 1998, Shapiro was named a "Runner-Up" on the Institutional Investor "All-America Research Team" in the Satellite category, and CableFax cited him as one of "Cable's 100 Most Influential People." In 1999, The Wall Street Journal added him to its "All Star" list for analysts in the Cable and Entertainment sector, and in 2001, The Wall Street Journal named him "Best on the Street" for stock-picking in Cable and Broadcasting. He received further recognition when he was voted to the Second Team on the "Institutional Investor All-America Research Team" for his work on the Cable industry. In 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005, Shapiro was named a "Runner-Up" on the Institutional Investor "All-America Research Team."

Long earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Manhattan College and a master of business administration from New York University's Leonard N. Stern School of Business.
